Cordoba is among the best tourist resorts of Spain and the city has a number of places which are worth visiting. Some of the excursions in Cordoba are:
Medina-Al-Zahra Ruins
This small town is located at a distance of eight kilometers from the city of Cordoba and is among the most historical places remaining from the Moorish rule in Spain. During the year 936, Adul Rehman the Moorish ruler decided to establish a new town for residential reasons and he developed the Medina-al-Zahra town which was the biggest town in the entire region during those times. The town was built by employing ten thousand workers and it took them twenty-five years to establish the town. In the construction of this town, they used 43 hundred columns and these were taken from the older structures of the Mediterranean region.
Alcazar Califal was the name of Palace which was located at the top of the hill and the administrative structure is located here along with many gardens and parks while the original town is situated on a flat piece of land nearby. The Throne Hall Place and the Golden Salon Palace are famous for their lavish interior decoration and the use of ornaments and marble. In the middle of these palaces, there is a basin which is filled with mercury which was then used to reflect the sun rays. However, all this great and beautiful work could only exist for seventy four years as later on this area was occupied by the Berberes who destroyed most of the infrastructure in the area. A great majority of the artistic works in the area were stolen and later on most of this work was incorporated in the various other palaces in the city of Cordoba.
Los Valles Del Sur
This region is located in the south side of Cordoba city and has a couple of villages which are known for many reasons. Moriles and Montill are the villages which have a significant wine culture and some places of historical interest. Baena is famous for some wonderful Easter celebrations, famous in the whole of Spain. Espejo is a place worth visiting in the area as it has a castle which was built during the 14th century.
La Sierra Norte
This is a hilly range which is located towards the north side of huren spanje. The entire area is famous for some breath-taking landscape views and the beautiful village. Santa Maria de la Mota is a church in the area which is worth visiting along with some 12th century Roman Empire remains.
